The importance of anti-wrinkle protocols:
Never underestimate the importance of anti-wrinkle protocols, as they are designed to maximise patient safety, deliver optimal results, and minimise adverse effects. And how do you approach this? By reviewing the anti-wrinkle injector’s qualifications and accreditation, ongoing training in aesthetic applications, and their adherence to stringent patient safety and procedural protocols. That is what I provide at every treatment.
Why undergo an anti-wrinkle treatment?
Today, we live in a world where our age and unique appearance can shape people’s perception of us and impact our well-being. In fact, our facial expressions are not just neurological pathways that reflect our feelings; they are also aligned with the way we communicate.
Unfortunately, the effects of well-defined facial wrinkles can sometimes lead to perceptual bias towards our age. By contrast, minimising facial lines and wrinkles can help you achieve a more rejuvenated appearance.
But there are important steps for you to consider before undergoing anti-wrinkle injectables. Start by becoming aware of the procedural protocols.
The Process:
The first course of action begins at your initial consultation, which is designed to keep you engaged in the process and clarify what outcome the anti-wrinkle treatment can realistically achieve.
- Since every person’s facial anatomy is unique and ages differently, I will carefully assess your facial structure, skin health, lifestyle, and goals to ensure your needs are valued and your treatment is safe and effective. This includes reviewing your full medical history and creating a safe, personalised treatment plan that meets your expectations.
- A post-treatment pathway will also be discussed, covering your projected recovery time, activity restrictions, and signs of complications to watch for, so you know what to expect.
- If your skin goals may extend beyond the anti-wrinkle treatment, I will assess and address any facial concerns you may have. This may include reviewing volume loss and ways to improve your skin’s overall appearance.
- I may also refer you to a specialist or to a clinic offering a variety of non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers, collagen induction procedures, pigmentation correction and laser treatments (advanced methods such as laser-coring, hybrid fractional wavelengths – ablative and non-ablative, and picosecond pulses).
- However, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have other health conditions, I will postpone your treatment.
Anti-wrinkle treatment:
The treatment involves carefully mapping your face to determine the exact depth, size, and location of the muscle, ensuring you feel secure and confident in the safety of the procedure. We also discuss potential side effects and how we minimise risks, so you feel fully informed and reassured.
In turn, the purified protein will bind to the motor nerve terminal and soften the dynamic lines, leaving you with a smoother, more youthful, yet natural appearance. We will also discuss what results are realistic for your specific case to ensure your expectations align with achievable outcomes.
- The most common areas I treat include forehead lines, glabellar or frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet, the lines around the eyes.
- Although the procedure is quick and minimally uncomfortable, it typically takes 3-7 days for the full effects to become visible, helping you plan accordingly.
Ongoing treatments:
Ongoing anti-wrinkle treatments are effective because they gradually retrain overactive muscles to relax, preventing dynamic lines from becoming static and deepening over time.
Another long-term benefit is that, as muscles become progressively inactive, many patients require fewer protein units during follow-up sessions.
- I will assess the adjacent muscles to the previously injected area, especially where compensatory lines may form.
- Based on any changes in your lines, including involuntary or overactive muscle contractions, muscle strength, and your overall expression, the process allows me to determine the precise new angle placement and needle depth for treating the area
Why less is more:
When the procedure is not performed properly, the face’s natural movement and aesthetic appearance are severely compromised.
Adopting a conservative approach helps you feel reassured that your safety is prioritised and that your results will look natural and authentic. This careful strategy aims to enhance your appearance subtly, respecting your natural expressions and features.
Remember: Accurate dosage and precise needle placement at key injection sites are crucial for achieving natural results and ensuring your safety during treatment.
Here is what an injector should always avoid:
- Overdosing and poor placement: Two common examples are when the patient’s appearance seems frozen and expressionless, or when the protein is injected into the wrong muscle, especially around the brow, which can cause the eyelid to droop.
- Reaction and Migration: Another poor application process occurs when an inexperienced injector triggers an adverse reaction, either causing a localised infection or causing the product to migrate dangerously to another area of the body.
- Muscle Atrophy: The condition can occur if the area is repeatedly injected or remains inactive for extended periods. In turn, the affected muscle can lose its mass and strength.
Other important protocols for consideration:
- My qualifications, conservative approach and aesthetic techniques as a licensed injector and physician play a vital role in minimising risks and achieving high-quality results.
- The medical-grade protein is applied with measured precision to optimise your results and minimise risks by respecting your unique facial anatomy and vascular structures.
- I am qualified and equipped to handle any adverse reaction or medical emergency that may arise.
Important pre- and post-treatment formalities:
It is important that you receive equal support in every aspect of your rejuvenation journey. That is why important protocols extend to both your pre- and post-treatment plan. Each is designed to make you feel supported, with your safety and results well managed at every step.
Before your treatment, focus on your health regimen and schedule ahead by two to three weeks if you have an important event on your calendar.
Start with an inside-out wellness approach, which includes a detox mindset, hydration, nutrition, and radiant skin health.
To secure the most effective and quality outcome from your treatment, ensure that you:
- Avoid drinking alcoholic or sugary beverages and cease taking anti-inflammatory tablets and blood thinners (if approved by your treating doctor) three days before the appointment. Also, pause supplementation with vitamin E, fish oil, ginkgo biloba and St John’s Wort, as they may cause minor bleeding and bruising.
- Avoid high-intensity workouts either before or directly after your treatment.
- To minimise skin sensitivity, avoid applying serums or creams containing retinol, alpha-hydroxy acid, or glycolic acid for three days before your treatment. Also, avoid using hair removal creams or waxing.
- On the day of your appointment, avoid caffeine and heavy breakfasts or lunches. But arrive fully hydrated and, if possible, without makeup or perfume.
- For the first 24 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the injected areas. This will prevent the product from migrating to other areas of the face. Also, remain upright for the first six hours and avoid saunas or direct sunlight.
- By proactively investing in your self-care regimen, you will help optimise treatment results and longevity
