The importance of anti-wrinkle protocols:
Why protocols are important:
Today, we live in a world where our age and appearance can shape people’s perception of us and impact our well-being. In fact, our facial expressions are not just neurological pathways that reflect our feelings; they are also aligned with our biological and societal responses.
As we age, these expression lines also become more pronounced, leaving you with a tired or stern look – even if you do not feel that way on the inside.
It is essential that we create a visual impression of approachability, confidence and vitality. Though ageing is innate and inescapable, countering the visible effects with an anti-wrinkle treatment can help disrupt the negative perception cycle that comes with age and revitalise your appearance, leaving you looking and feeling like the best version of yourself.
However, the rejuvenation process begins with an experienced, qualified injector who adheres to regulatory medical protocols to achieve safe, high-quality results.
However, the rejuvenation process begins with an experienced and qualified injector who follows a series of medical protocols to achieve safe, high-quality results.
What are the first steps?
First, I will prescribe the safe yet effective non-surgical treatment only after an initial consultation. During the consult, I will discuss your health, aesthetic goals, the suitability of the treatment and the dosing levels required as part of your treatment plan.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, for example, the treatment will be postponed.
The process involves injecting small strategic doses of purified protein directly into the lines to temporarily block the nerve signals that cause facial muscles to contract. In turn, the purified protein will bind to the motor nerve terminal and soften the dynamic lines, leaving you with a smoother, more youthful, yet natural appearance.
The most common areas I treat include forehead lines, glabellar or frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet, the lines around the eyes.
While the procedure is relatively quick, most patients experience little discomfort with minimal downtime. However, it is essential that you follow the post-treatment instructions provided during the consultation to optimise the results.
Why less is more:
Our face expresses our emotional connection to our extended environment. When the procedure is not performed properly, the face’s functional role and aesthetic appearance are severely compromised.
For that reason, a conservative treatment plan and approach are imperative to minimise complications and risks.
The application should always centre on the correct dosage and accurate needle placement at the different injection sites where lines and deep wrinkles are prominent.
Here is what an injector should always avoid:
Overdosing and poor placement: Two common examples are when the patient’s appearance seems frozen and expressionless, or when the protein is injected into the wrong muscle, especially around the brow, which can cause the eyelid to droop.
Reaction and Migration: Another poor application process occurs when an inexperienced injector triggers an adverse reaction, either causing a localised infection or causing the product to migrate dangerously to another area of the body.
Muscle Atrophy: The condition can occur if the area is repeatedly injected or remains inactive for extended periods. In turn, the affected muscle can lose its mass and strength.
Muscle Mapping:
With every return treatment, I will assess the adjacent muscles to the previously injected area, especially where compensatory lines may form.
By “muscle mapping,” I can determine the precise new angle placement and needle depth for treating the area based on any changes in your lines – including involuntary or overactive muscle contractions, muscle strength, and your overall expression.
Safety:
My conservative approach and aesthetic techniques as a licensed injector and physician play a vital role in minimising risks and achieving high-quality results. And complementing my approach is the quality of the pure protein used, which results in a smoother texture that helps prevent deeper lines and wrinkles from forming over time.
Pre and Post Treatment Protocols:
Before your treatment, focus on your health regimen and schedule ahead by two to three weeks if you have an important event on your calendar. Start with an inside-out wellness approach, which includes a detox mindset, hydration, nutrition, and radiant skin health.
Ensure that you:
Avoid drinking alcoholic or sugary beverages and cease taking anti-inflammatory tablets and blood thinners (if approved by your treating doctor) three days before the appointment. Also, pause supplementation with vitamin E, fish oil, ginkgo biloba and St John’s Wort, as they may cause minor bleeding and bruising.
Avoid high-intensity workouts either before or after your treatment.
To minimise skin sensitivity, avoid applying serums or creams containing retinol, alpha-hydroxy acid, or glycolic acid for three days before your treatment. Also, avoid using hair removal creams or waxing.
On the day of your appointment, avoid caffeine and heavy breakfasts or lunches. But arrive fully hydrated and, if possible, without makeup or perfume.
For the first 24 hours after your treatment, avoid massaging or rubbing the injected areas to avoid the product migrating to other areas of the face. Also, remain upright for the first six hours and avoid saunas or direct sunlight.
By proactively investing in your self-care regimen, you will foster a sense of empowerment that will help optimise treatment results and longevity.
